Russian artist Ruslan Khasanov’s intricate videography project ‘Odyssey’ encapsulates the beauty of macro film. The idea for this scientific/art experiment came about quite by chance, when Ruslan was cooking with oil and soy sauce, what emerged was a unique relationship between the two liquids, the result saw a kaleidoscopic explosion of differing colours. What I find so fascinating about ‘Odyssey’ is its aesthetics, and above all this merger of natural, spontaneous beauty with the soft and gentle music of Ilya Beshevli.

‘Odyssey’ is Ruslan Khasanov’s second experiment with oil, the first being back in 2013, titled ‘Pacific Light’ the project used the same simple ingredients – ink, oil and soap – for ‘Pacific Light’ the theme conjured up a more deep and atmospheric feel.
